THE WYLDE AND THE WYCKED
Check it out dawgs, donned my bespoke suit to suss out art exhibition by Swiss cinematographer Beat Presser at Pavaradi Theatre on the other side of Chaophraya River.
Beat has worked with Wim Wenders, Werner Herzog, Fassbinder, and is personal friend of Dr Albert Hoffman. He was also personal photographer to Klaus Kinski. Beat is a repository of information about Brion Gysin.
I rolled off the skytrain and jumped a ferryboat. The ferry took off under ink blue sky, the Bangkok night was cool and starry as the boat passed the splendid contours of the Temple of Dawn.
Colored lights adorned the restaurants and edifices on both sides of the river splashing the water with the refractions, giving it the look of an Impressionist painting. The Royal Palace loomed ahead, full of mystery and grandeur. The boat docked and I made it to the scene of the crime.
Madame Pavaradi is a petite lady with a Leslie Caron hair style flecked with silver. She enjoyed a career as a film star, and is much loved and revered.
The theatre is a beautiful space. Beat was rolling deep. I schmoozed with the staff of the Swiss Embassy, chatted up the birds and proceeded to the theatre proper where Beat screened two short films based on his book The Oasis of Silence. (remarkable photo above from the Oasis of Silence exhibit).
Beat is a cool dude with a tousled mop of brown hair, an infectious grin, and a mischievous laugh.
The photographs on film were in black and white, delicate and striking like an old movie, and captured the essence of life in a Buddhist monastary.
After the third glass of vin rouge I bailed and jumped the boat to the other shore as I had to go to Pattaya early Friday
Time to hang with the the wylde and wycked in Pattaya. So we dined at Chez Bernard with friends. Our host Bernard plied us with a liter of wine, French gastronomy, and beaucoup des ambiance. We were joined at the table by noted author Jake Anthony. He is the author of acclaimed and controversial novels as For King And Country, and fan and promoter of Sleepless in Bangkok. Sleepless in Bangkok by Ian Quartermaine – an erotic thriller. (not for the faint of heart)
After din din the train kept a rolling all night long. Check out Big AL Harlow when you are in Pattaya.
Al runs a taco stand next to Oasis a-go-go. His soon to be published memoire, Welcome to the Jungle rocks, baby.
Big Al and Jake Anthony read for parts in Mr. Oliver Stone flick Pinkville which commences shooting here in January. Good luck to Big Al and Jake on getting these parts!
We topped up the night with cocktails at Heaven Above, a popular hangout among the in crowd. Next stop was Angelwitch to catch the sexy shows by a bevy of gorgeous ecydiasts. As always my friends in the USA just have lost the plot re the aforementioned.
I bid them adieu with the immortal words of Bob Dylan –
AND YOU ASK WHY I DONT LIVE THERE HONEY HOW COME YOU DONT MOVE.
